Hudson Horror Show 16 - The Aftermath

Still recovering from what has now become a staple in the 35mm experience twice a year. Feel like I'm hung over without imbibing anything. However, I wouldn't trade my bodily aftermath for anything in the world because of this event. I moved from my usual comfort of theatre 6 to theatre 1 this go around just to change it up, as well as the order of the lineup being closer to my taste. On to the films-

1. Prison- first saw this almost 30 years ago on vhs based solely on the writeup in an issue of Fangoria. Back then, I was quite disappointed with it, with my balls being busted by friends for picking it out at Mahopac Video. After quite some time has passed, I figured to give it another go, and guess what- my feelings on it haven't changed. Still not a fan of this wasted effort.

2. The Boogens- another one that I hated upon initially viewing it many years ago, but this one grew on me as a pretty solid monster movie. Though the first half was boring and nothing was really happening, the second half picked up speed and became quite enjoyable.

3. Blacula- I got through 10 minutes of this overplayed, overwatched Blaxploitation venture, then decided to bail to get food, and hang with Brandon of Vinegar Syndrome.

4. Mystery Movie- those who know, The mystery movie at Hudson Horror Show shall remain a mystery. Of it, I will say I've seen it so many times, I'm just done with it. Made it through 20 minutes then bailed to hang in my jeep and smoke cigarettes.

5. Savage Streets- I started to watch this a few months ago at The Mahoning Drive-in, but it ended up watching me as I fell into a coma. So this time I vowed to stay awake and actually see it. This one ended up being my favorite of the entire day.

6. Halloween 4- The Return of Michael Meyers- absolutely not a fan of this sequel that should've ended at the third installment. Boring and overall bad. I ended up passing out on it. Next thing I knew, the lights came up.

Overall a great show as always put together by a great group of folks. Big thanks to Chris Alo, Sean Mc Donnell, James Reitter, Ann Gaygan, Daniel Deyo, and everyone else involved that break their ass putting this on twice a year. Here's to many more!
